Fort Vredeburg

Vredeburg located on the south side of Jalan Malioboro Yogyakarta bersebarangan with the State Palace in the Great House. The fort was built in colonial times Belandan year 1765 and it serves as a fortress to protect the governor of the Dutch East Indies survive living in the Governorate Building (now called the Great House). Vredeburg also equipped with cannons that leads to Sultan of Yogyakarta to anticipate the attacks that came from the Sultan Palace soldiers, although in the end guns are not very useful when there is an attack from insurgents Indonesia in 1949.

As one of the relics of history, until now Vredeburg maintained and well cared for. It seems to still sturdy and terawatnya wall surrounding the fort including the castle ditch, with beautiful gardens around the fort.

Existing buildings in the complex Vredeburg itself has undergone refurbishment, which looks solid and beautiful. In some buildings there are diorama-diorama which tells the struggle of the army of the Republic of Indonesia in the Dutch colonial period.

In addition to the diorama, diorama, Vredeburg now also become one of the places of cultural and arts activities in Yogyakarta, this looks to the frequency of the fort was used by cultural experts and artists as a venue for creating and exhibiting works of art and culture to the community, as an example of an event FKY one of the activities carried out in this castle.
